Testify Series: Day 11

John 6:22-42

The next day after Jesus walked on water towards Capernum, the crowd where Jesus had blessed with bread went to look for Him. “They asked him when did you get here?”

He starts to recognize and communicate with the crowd that He knows they are only following Him for what He can do for them or give them. He reminds them not to be so concerned with perishable things but instead spending their energy seeking the eternal life that He can give. He explains that the Father has given His seal of approval.

They express interest in performing God’s works, too. Jesus replies, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.

Our belief influences our worldview, behavior, and actions and Jesus knows this. Everything stems from this core foundational truth. Do you believe Jesus is who He says He is?

They respond, “Show us a miraculous sign if you want us to believe.”

This conditional following is requesting “manna from heaven” after he just provided bread and fish in the wilderness. Jesus stops and reminds them to look for the spiritual bread, Himself, the bread of life. He came down from heaven to give life to the world. He invites them to come to Him, the bread of life, and hunger and thirst no more. Yet they don’t believe Him and they can see Him for who He is right before their eyes.

He states that those the Father has given Him will come to Him and He will never reject them. He will not lose even one of them and they will be raised up on the last day. It is God’s will that all who see his Son and believe in Him should have eternal life. (vs. 35-40)

Then the murmuring, gossip, and second guessing began. “We know His mother and father, how can say He came down from heaven?”

I hope to see you back tomorrow as the story continues on Day 12.

May the Lord bless you and keep you and make His face shine upon you,

Emily
